Assange Granted Appeal Against Extradition to US

WikiLeaks Founder Challenges British Court's Decision

Julian Assange, the embattled WikiLeaks founder, has been granted permission to appeal against a British court's decision to extradite him to the United States. Assange was first arrested in Britain in 2010 on a Swedish warrant over sex crime allegations that were later dropped.

London Court's Ruling

On Monday, a London court ruled that Assange could appeal his extradition to the US on charges of spying. This is a significant development in the long-running legal battle between Assange and the US authorities.

The British High Court in London ruled that Assange could challenge the extradition order on the grounds that it was not in the public interest and that he would likely face oppressive conditions in the US.

Assange's lawyers have argued that the extradition request is politically motivated and that he will not receive a fair trial in the US. They also say that the conditions in which he would be held in the US are inhumane.

The US government has said that Assange is a fugitive from justice and that he must be extradited to face charges of conspiracy to commit computer intrusion and espionage.

The appeal process is expected to take several months. It is unclear what will happen to Assange if his appeal is successful.
