Free Agent Forward to Join Kidd's Squad

Jones Expected to Add Depth to Mavericks' Frontcourt

Free agent forward Derrick Jones Jr. has reportedly agreed to a two-year, $6.5 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. The 24-year-old will join a team led by head coach Jason Kidd, who is looking to improve upon a disappointing 2021-22 season.

Jones, who played for the Portland Trail Blazers last season, is a versatile forward known for his athleticism and defensive abilities. He averaged 6.9 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in 2021-22. He is expected to provide depth to the Mavericks' frontcourt behind starters Kristaps Porzingis and Maxi Kleber.

The Mavericks have been active in the free agency market this offseason, adding several players to bolster their roster. The team has also acquired guard Jalen Brunson from the New York Knicks and center JaVale McGee from the Phoenix Suns.
