Record-Breaking 45,253 Kenyans Return Home from Somalia

Voluntary repatriation exercise ends

Thousands of Kenyans have returned home from Somalia following a voluntary repatriation exercise that ended last week.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 45,253 Kenyans have been assisted to return home since the exercise began in 2016. The majority of the returnees came from the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya, which is home to over 230,000 Somali refugees.

The repatriation exercise was conducted in close collaboration with the governments of Kenya and Somalia. The returnees were provided with transportation, food, and shelter as they made their way home.

The Kenyan government has welcomed the return of its citizens, and has pledged to provide them with assistance to rebuild their lives. The returnees will be eligible for a range of programs and services, including housing, education, and healthcare.

The voluntary repatriation exercise has been a success, and has allowed thousands of Kenyans to return home and rebuild their lives. The Kenyan government and UNHCR deserve credit for their efforts in making this possible.
