Canada Names Record-Breaking NBA-Heavy Olympic Basketball Roster
Ten active NBA players selected, giving Canada a legitimate shot at the podium
Fernandez's roster boasts star power, including Murray, Wiggins, and Barrett
Canada's first Olympic men's basketball team since 2000 will be a force to be reckoned with, as it includes a record-breaking 10 active NBA players.
Head coach Jordi Fernandez has assembled a roster with so much star power that most observers concede Canada has a great shot at reaching the podium in Paris.
The team officially announced its training camp roster on Wednesday, with eight of the 12 players selected having NBA experience. Among the highlights are Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray, Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins, and New York Knicks guard RJ Barrett.
With opening ceremonies just over a month away, Canada's Olympic hopes rest heavily on the shoulders of these elite athletes. Their NBA experience and familiarity with each other will undoubtedly give them an edge over their competition.
In the words of Fernandez, "This is a special group of players who have dedicated themselves to representing Canada and achieving success on the world stage. We have a great mix of youth and experience, and I am confident that we can make a deep run in Paris."
